Excellent students. Exceptional citizens. At the Campus School of Carlow University, we strive to ensure that our children reach their fullest potential as both learners and individuals. In order for students to become meaningful contributors to this growing, global society, we believe the emphasis must be on creativity, diversity, productivity, risk-taking, and adaptation to change. In addition, our students learn social responsibility and their important place in the larger community.
The Campus School of Carlow University has a long, rich history of academic achievement and spiritual development for students. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1963, our heritage can be traced back to 1844 when the Sisters opened Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Pittsburgh. An independent, coeducational Catholic day school for Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight and a Montessori preschool program, The Campus School espouses Judeo-Christian values, features a strong, comprehensive core curriculum and champions a holistic approach to learning that develops the creativity and unique gifts of each child. The Campus School’s partnering of spiritual values and academic excellence fosters in each child a love of life and learning and a sense of responsibility and purpose.
As part of the Carlow University campus, our students share in the University’s many resources. They produce plays on the University’s two stages, swim in the University pool, and dine in the University cafeteria. And since the Sisters of Mercy Mother House is also situated on campus, our students are truly part of a broad-based community. It is the only place in Pittsburgh where PreK-Grade 8 students attend school with undergraduate and graduate level university scholars, octogenarians in the Women’s Writing Center, and centenarians in our convent Mother House. Our teachers also enjoy the benefits of working on a university campus. We regularly partner with Carlow’s School of Education, where professors offer our teachers innovative and cutting edge professional development opportunities in their classrooms, as well as during regularly scheduled workshops.
The Campus School offers a unique hands-on approach, where parents, teachers, and administrators come together to make learning meaningful for every student. Our students are not only prepared to compete in the world, but to make it a better place as well. We invite you to visit our campus, tour our facilities, meet our teachers, and see just what makes The Campus School of Carlow University such a special and nurturing environment for children and their families.
