  A Typical Day in the Montessori Classroom

 

8:15 - 8:30 am Children arrive and begin classroom work until opening line.
8:30 am During opening line, children exchange a "good morning" song , say a morning prayer, discuss the day's activities and new materials are presented
8:50 - 10:50 am

Children begin to select their own work
•  Teachers work with individuals or small groups
•  Children work together or alone
•  Children prepare a nutritional snack as part of the curriculum

10:50 - 11:25 am

Clean-up time
Children go to the line for music and games
Storytime, finger plays, poetry and outdoor play

11:30 am Dismissal of half-day children
11:45 am Lunch for full-day students in classrooms to foster Daily Living activities
12:15 pm

Afternoon activities for:

3 & 4 year olds
Quiet time
Extended Montessori work
Tactile and art experiences
Yoga
Cooking

5 year olds
Extended math curriculum
In-depth science and social studies

Weekly classes in:
Library
Music
Swimming
French
Art
Computer

2:35 - 2:50 pm Clean-up/Dismissal
