Music - Upper Years Curriculum

The Upper School music curriculum is part of the Wheel rotation.  Students experience a concentrated 9-week period studying rhythm, melody, harmony, and the cultural context of music.  These mixed age groups of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have read about and discussed the concepts of Music of the Generations, the importance of music in media, and the influence of media on our musical choices.  After sharing ideas, these students work in cooperative groups to create performances that show their understanding of the concepts.  They employ choreography, guitars, recorders, percussion, and voice.  Students also analyzed published CD reviews and subsequently wrote their own song reviews. All students have an opportunity to take part in the upper school musical. In 2008, the musical is Willy Wonka Junior.
