Upper school science provides a balanced combination of content and process and inquiry skills using a fully equipped modern science laboratory setting. The curriculum aids each student in developing the thinking skills and processes necessary for problem solving, while conveying the importance and relevance science has in everyday living. Technology is integrated into the curriculum by giving students the opportunity to prepare lab reports using Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets, as well as preparing multimedia presentations using Microsoft Powerpoint. Earth science is the focus in sixth grade; life science is explored in seventh grade and physical science is emphasized in eighth grade. Throughout each level, enrichment opportunities are provided for all students to participate in regional science competition. Students in grade seven embark on a three week study of the region's waterways that culminates in an all day study of the flora, fauna, and water quality of our area's three rivers aboard the floating laboratory, The Pittsburgh Voyager.
