From late August through mid October, students in Grades 3 - 8 can participate in cross country. Practices take place three days a week at Frick Park and the Schenley Oval Park. Children run in Diocesan competitions that include four meets per season and a final championship meet at Slippery Rock. Participation in cross country requires a fee that is paid to The Campus School Athletic Association. A Sports Permission form must be signed prior to a child practicing with the cross country team.

Cross Country End-of-Year Message

Hello All,

It felt more like Chicago weather yesterday for the Diocesan Championships in Slippery Rock/Cooper's Lake! With strong, gusty winds blowing all day and a chill in the air, the 23 Carlow Cross Country runners who came did so to compete, and it showed in a day of "firsts"!

First up were our Open Runners, Gus Robinson and Kevin Salipante. These two guys really kicked the blustery day off in great fashion with their performances: Gus ran a 14:25 to come in 12th place out of a joint JV Boys and Girls race with 289 runners; and Kevin came in at an impressive 33rd with 16:02. Kevin's time was one of the very few that stayed the same (to the second!!) as last year's or improved, particularly impressive with the weather conditions this year (last year, it was sunny and warm).

Next up, JV Girls Siena Blelloch, Maria Chaer, Hannah Kostyak, Abby Suwalski and Emma Cahill ran strong races, with Siena just barely missing a medal, coming in 26th out of 233 runners. The Carlow JV Girls team came in 23rd out of 31 eligible teams, but they wrapped up their season with a great core foundation to build up from next year!

The third race of the day was one that proved that the Carlow JV Boys are definitely the fastest of the East for 2011! (Those North teams are the ones we have to beat, and next year, that's the goal!). In a field of 233 runners from 31 teams, our JVB took the SIXTH PLACE TEAM TROPHY!! This is the FIRST team trophy every brought home by a Carlow team (and I know the first of many!). The top five Carlow runners were Sam Casale, with a 17th place medal (13:01); Giacomo Coraluppi, with a 23rd place medal (13:07); Jack Robinson (13:46); Anderson Cynkar (14:05); and Giovanni Coraluppi (14:09). Sam Gatti (14:28) and Will Gatti (14:40) added strong contributions to bolster the team, and they finished only THREE points behind the Fifth Place Team Finisher (St. Bonaventure). CONGRATULATIONS JV BOYS!

Our Varsity Girls didn't have enough for a full team, but out of 155 runners, Sophie Burkholder, Maddy Casale, Fay Blelloch, and Lidia Signorella all ran strong races showing a lot of heart.

Lastly, the ever-patient Carlow Boys Varsity Boys really came out in force to run their best meet of the season. This was the first time we've taken a full team of Varsity Boys to Championships and they weren't messing around! In a field of 166 runners, our top Carlow finishers were Joey Gatti, with a 6th Place medal (12:01); Bobby Kiernan, with a 12th Place medal (12:26); Marco DiVito (14:33); Bryce Potts (14:42); and Joseph DiVito (14:59). Nick Becker and Remy Erkel put strong surges on both of their races to help secure a 12th Place Finish for the Carlow Varsity Boys! It's noteworthy to mention that JOEY placed higher than any Carlow runner ever has placed in the Diocesan Championships. Great job Joe!

While I am saddened to see so many of our 8th graders leaving (Bryce, Fay, Sophie, Maddy, Joseph, Remy, Bobby, and Tamir), it's been a real pleasure having you on the team and we wish you the very best!

Finally, thanks to all the parents who helped make this season terrific. Your volunteer efforts included everything from running with the team at practices, warming runners up at races, bringing food and beverages (and birthday cake!), and providing support and TLC throughout the season. We couldn't have the successful team we do without all of you!! Special thanks to my "co-coaches" who seemed to be at every practice:
