Third Grade Newsletter

“We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.”

Café/Daily 5: This week we finished reading 7 X 9 = Trouble, definitely a story enjoyed by all.  Third graders are hard at work practicing their multiplication skills in math! We have also been enjoying adding poetry into our ABC Books of Poetry…A is for Acrostic and B is for Bio Poem!

Math: We learned our first Unit 2 Work Place game called Loops & Groups. We also completed a two-day exploration of a coral reef ecosystem, which provided a new context for investigating multiplication. Using a small clownfish as a basic unit of measure, students figure out how much longer and taller other reef species are when compared with the clownfish.

Science:  It is hard to believe that our field trip to Laurel Caverns is next Friday. We had a great time creating our paper mache caves to end our week. We will be painting them early next week and adding information about specific cave formations.  This will also be an excellent lead into our first Social Studies Unit on Native Americans, which we will begin next week.

Things to Remember:

  • Laurel Caverns Field Trip is on Friday, October 25th.
  • October Book Report is due on November 1st.
  • As a reminder, please send your child in each day with a healthy snack.  We would also be appreciative of anyone willing to send in bulk snacks!
