“The gift of friendship…a willingness to listen…a pair of helping hands…a whisper from the heart. That someone cares and understands.”
Café/Daily 5: We started reading A Lion to Guard Us, by Clyde Robert Bulla. This historical fiction book ties in nicely with our unit on the Thirteen Colonies. In this story, the main character Amanda, must help her younger brother and sister on the voyage to America to find their father who is helping settle Jamestown. While reading, we are focusing on characterization, cause and effect relationships, inferencing, and figurative language as well as adding information to our Social Studies Scrapbooks.
Math: This week we wrapped up Unit 3: Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction. We will begin Unit 4: Measurement and Fractions on Monday!
Social Studies: We began learning about the 13 Colonies. We constructed a map of the colonies and are currently focusing on colonial facts, such as when it was founded and by whom. We will then start comparing such things as the land, climate, economy, diversity of people and any additional interesting facts.
